I went to the pocahaunted show at the smell a week agggggggggggggggggo.












I really wasn't sure what kind of show this was to be. I got there in time to see the tail end of the guy before this guy, I was sort of confused. I am not super acustomed to sitting on the floor type shows, but once I shut my mind off and just listened to what this guy was actually doing, it was really cool. Taking a crazy guess here, but most of the openers where much more, the sit down and just listen type of stimulation. I don't remember who this was, but he was talented. So if anyone knows who this guy is, let me know or him know that hes got a photograph up here.



Pocahaunted is a much more visual act with all sorts of insanity going on with smooth kinda trancey strange sounds ... maybe I should stop trying to describe the sounds that I am hearing and just show some more photographs.

Photographinig them was a challange. I was going to shoot ambeint, but they turned out all the house lights minus the couple of blue gelled lights that they had brought with them. Ok, I guess I am going with the flash. Straight on camera in your face flash doesn't work with everyone, and this wasn't for them. After a couple of shots like that, I switched to dragging the shutter, taking advantage of their blue light. I also did some multiple exposures mixed with dragging the shutter. Photographing this way gives you much more of a feel for what to expect from them musically. Some of the images are a bit difficult to pull apart, you really have to look at them to see what is it that is going on, much like the music from this night, you really had to listen.

shows like this I almost always will shoot direct flash. Bounce flash has a tendancy to look really fake. I don't use a diffuser on my flash because I really do enjoy the harshness of the bare flash. I have my flash set to be narrower than my lens, I get a nice vignette that way. For example, I will use a 24mm lens, and my flash will be set to 28 or 35mm, when I shoot wider than 24mm (down to 15) I keep it set at 24mm. When subjects are bouncing around near you, and also when you are so close to your subjects, my flash tends to overexpose, I often will photograph with my flash set to 1 or 2 stops under. I can bring an underexposed image back up (yes it adds alot of noise, but for these images, i feel it does not hinder them) but there is nothing worse than blowing something out right in the middle of the frame.

Art walk went amazing. Ok. It wasn't perfect. We opened a little late (45 minutes) but everything got done, and it rocked once it was up. The dancers where amazing, ill be posting a few pics from it soon.

Artwalk went really really well. Really well. I'll be posting a few photos soon.

I photographed Sheena the other day, she needed images for an online tattoo magazine, here are a few of what we did.







and she brought a friend .... she is doing her own shoot in a week or so.



we also did some digital pinhole stuff, which I am actually really excited about. I will be posting those soon too.

I am currently only using a single strobe. I desperatly need a second, I have far outgrown shooting using a single light ... I am able to make due with it, but it would really be nice to have a second or even 3rd on ocasions ...

"the dark room" is closing this weekend! We will be setting up our new show "red light district" its going to be realllllllllly good. All bw work lit with gelled red lights, nudes and human figured themed work, live burlesque dancers ... its going to be a good time. I shot Julie Bee yesterday, also known as Poison IV of the OC rollergirls ... we did some stuff in my (living room) studio, and then went out to a location I know nearby ...









I think its safe to say we had a good afternoon :)

Art walk was on saturday, it went really really well. OC weekly may be doing a write up ...

Sunday I photographed a burlesque show in Anaheim (http://www.myspace.com/boozyfloozyburlesque) Ill be putting up a few of those soon.

Tommorow I am photographing the beautiful Julie ... have no idea what we are going to do. Some sort of portrait for fashion type thing.

At the Nomadic Image gallery in Santa Ana we are currently showing our "in the dark room" show which is a halloween themed show of all photography, we are having a party on Saturday, for art walk (duh come down) and we are having a closing party on friday the 13th.

I am also showing peices of "unknown" at the Orange Coast College Library. It should be up for the remainder of the semester (duh come down, for the 2nd time).

I photographed Korn and Shiny Toy guns the other night for Tavik Clothing, here are a few of the photographs ...





It was nice to photograph a stage with decent lighting for once. My favorite image is the crowd shot. Without the crowd, the show would be nothing.



Shiny Toy Guns, in the 2nd photo the drummer is actually proposing to his gf. Right place at the right time.
