I decided recently that I am just going to suck it up and get a new website. I have been dealing with the limitations of a flash tempplate site for a little while now, and I will be moving onto something that is a little pricier, but I can pretty much edit everything ... I am looking forward to that, this probably won't launch for another few months, but its in the works .... for now, my current will have to do ...

so how about some pics from the no cancer benifit show?

this show took place in SilverLake at the Strange right off of Melrose, the flyers said be there at 11, so I figured 11:45 would be fine. Pretty damn early, but eff it. Ill be there, and I was there. Doors opened at about 12:30. Figures right? People imediatly began helping themselves to the complimentary alchohal, free Colt 45 for the whole day, talk about rocking the ghetta beer. I decided to wait till 2 for my first drink ...

the lineup for the day was pretty awesome, just a few of the bands that I can remember right now where, Wounded Lion, Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, No Age, Best Coast, and Cowabunga babes from Austin.

This was my second time seeing Wounded Lion, they are freeckin rad, so if you get the chance, do it. I spent a good amount of time talking with June from Wounded Lion, they seem like a good group of people and something to watch. www.myspace.com/wlion

Also through out the day there where guest DJs spinning all sorts of indie, punk, electronica, and random bits of hip hop, this is a terrific (not really) pic of Blaque Chris doing his thing.

Photobucket

DJ Keith Morris, the former frontman of Black Flag, currrently still plays with the Circle Jerks (how many decades now?!), and also has done numerous side projects. He stays busy.

Kids ...

No Age Played around 530 and everyone kinda sorta went ape shit.

Photobucket

Photobucket

One offensive drunken guy, litterally got carried out by the audience, he readmitted himself through the back, and was promptly tossed out again ...

Photobucket

Other drunken people (ahem, hawwain shirt guy) were more on the friendly drunk side, and just kinda flopped around a bit.

No Age was super apreciative twoards the extremly receptive crowd, it was really fun, and I had NO CHOICE but to shoot from on the stage, a good 10ish people ended up perched on the stage for the set.

Best Coast played a little later, shes been getting a fair bit of press lately, and I can see why .... fuzzy, catchy, poppy and all that jazz ....

This was all over and done with about 8. Time to go to something else! The event was really sucessful, totally selling out in presale, it was really fun, all the bands where great, and there where almost no problems, at least from my perspective.

Tada!

and one more for the road.

the day was long, and the beer was cold and cheap.

Costmodelion & Brother Cecil @ Proof

I have this thing where I really don't photograph bar shows, I just tend not to, and I almost never do it on purpose ... well ... I broke my rule with this one ...

Photobucket

Brother Cecil AKA DJ Oldboy AKA Death Hym Number 9 ...

Photobucket

Brother Cecil hails from Jackson Mississippi and died probably of liver cancer probably sometime in the 20s. Luckily, unlike most dead things 90 years old, he doesn't smell too awful, still enjoys bourbon, and makes some really good noises with his geetar and other instruments of destruction. Playing covers from his home era with the enthusiasm of a modern day rock n rolla, he thrashes about, but doesn't lose any limbs. Lucky zombie. Everyone left alive.

Photobucket

Ive known a couple of the guys from this band for sometime now, but this was only the second time seeing them! The first time was at that one lil bar on 17th and placentia, across from Detrion ... whats his face from that one band used to own it ... anyways, that was fun, and so was this. There where a decent amount of people in the bar itself, and a good amount gathered around seeing what these oddities where up to.

Cosmodelian are exactly what they look like. Strange funky rythmic noises coming from body suit wearing (mostly) Japanese guys ... its good. take my word for it. A welcome relief from the garagey surf bands that dominate the area.

So thats that. being a bar, most people where more concerned with drinking than music, but hell, it was free, and I happened to have my camera ... so there I was. Veddy good music for an evening in Santa Ana ....

Crystal Antlers at Kevins house & Audacity (but no pics) in Rosemead

About a dozen individuals where waiting in Kevins front yard when I rode up on my bicycle. It was about 430pm on Saturday. I was a bit unsure why everyone was hanging out in the front yard ... just as I was walking up the driveway, Mary Bell happened to open the door and tell everyone to go into the backyard ... ok good ... so thats where I went. I ran into the Cezer, stole one of his Cezar Beers and hug out. More and more people meandered through the front door and slowly began to fill Kevins backyard, Kevins dad was running around, but there was no Kevin, and the rest of the Crystal Antlers where missing as well. A band from San Diego is present however, and right now, their name is missing from my mind! They where pretty good, they where playing an all day LA super tour .... 8 shows in one day ... Eff that! They brought a decent amount of people with them, set up, played, broke down, and ran away ... not so bad. I know a few people that saw them play at different parties all through out LA that day ... really cool idea.

Unexpectadly, Audacity was the next band. I had no idea they where going to be there.

It was great to see them so randomly! The crowd squeezed together in the living room, jumping up and down to the music ... those that knew the words sung along ...

By now it was nearly 8 .. Kevin, Johnny, Damian and the rest of the Crystal Antlers had shown up and they where set up. They definitly played to a full house (pun intended?) as well as a full backyard ...

The show ended really early as far as house parties are concerned, Crystal Antlers where packing up to go play another show later on that evening at a grammys afterparty, pretty cool. A friend invited me to join her in a drive out to LA to another house show ... i thought to myself, sure why not ... we shot up the 605 freeway, got burritos from a hole in the wall mexican place in Rosemead and a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon ... we where set.

We got to this huge house in Rosemead around 9, and of all bands to be playing, it was a ska band! I was kind of excited. I hadnt seen a ska band in some time, and they where pretty decent. I would love to tell you their name, but I havnt a clue.

Photobucket

the house was huge, though the party was in the backyard and the bands played in the guest house ... which was really neat. I someone told me that no one was living at the house .. I have no idea if this was true ... and I would doubt it .. but its cool to think it was true.

I need a moment to refill my glass ... mmm Orange Juice and Vodka ...

Ok. What was I talking about? Oh yeah ... so other bands played too ... wow, is that lazy writing or what?

OK OK, AM was one of the bands ... and the other ... fuck. Ok. I blew this one, I never wrote down who the other bands where, and now its 2 weeks later and I have no idea. Oh well. Pictures!

and well just end it with two pictures of Lynnsee.

By this time I was kinda drunk, and really freakin tired, and then Audacity went to play again ... which I was pretty happy about ... only to hae my camera die. I hadnt planned on shooting two shows this night ... I was thinking there would only be one ... and then ... even worse ... of my 5 batteries that I have, I left all of them at home ... talk about dropping the ball big time. I managed to get a couple of shots out of it, but really ... nothing. So Audacity played, and I had no choice but to put my camera away and have fun anyways, which was followed by going to sleep in Kassandras car.

Photographically ... I wasnt really happy with this night. It could have been a lot better. I wasnt really thinking about the photographs I was taking. Well, sometimes I was .. but often times it was just point and shoot. I wasnt paying enough attention to the images I should have been getting, + I didnt bring any extra batteries, and on top of that, I left the lense that I normally use for house shows at home!!!! Talk about shooting yourself in both feet! Owell, it happens though, you can never be happy with everything, and I still got a couple of shots that I am happy with ... just ... it could have been better. Next time ...

thanks for looking!
